Continuing the discussion on lithium-ion battery fire protection, we have presented research on the potential utilization of polymeric protective coatings derived from salen-type nickel complexes. These coatings can be applied to lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide cathodes, which are known to have an increased fire hazard. The examination of the characteristics of batteries that have been altered with a voltage-sensitive electrical conductivity polymer layer during overcharging and short-circuiting showed the applicability of such a method of device protection.
